MEMPHIS, TN – Shelby County Sheriff’s deputies say a homeowner in southeast Shelby County fired shots at two men who were trying to rob him.
It happened in the 7500 block of Lowrance, Wednesday, November 4, 2009, just before 6:00 a.m. The homeowner told Sheriff’s investigators that he was working on his car in his garage when two men, in their 20s, walked in and demanded money. Shelby County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Steve Shular says detectives were told by the victim that the men then took his wallet and forced him into the house. The victim says that is when he felt what he described as the barrel of a gun shoved into his back.
Detectives say the victim told the robbers he had more money in his closet. But instead of reaching for cash, investigators say he grabbed his gun and started shooting at the suspects.
Shular says it is not known if either suspect was hit during the shooting.
