COVINGTON, TN - The Tipton County Sheriff's Office says a 2-year-old girl drowned in the family pool early Saturday morning.
Deputy Chief Donna Turner tells myEyewitnessNews.com the accident happened in the 1700 block of Jamestown Road in the Gilt Edge Community around 8:30 a.m.
Turner says the little girl apparently opened a door and went outside. It was several minutes before family members realized she was missing.
After a frantic search, relatives found the child in the pool. They called 911 and tried unsuccessfully to resuscitate her. Emergency crews pronounced the girl dead at the scene.
Investigators say there was no evidence of foul play at the home. The medical examiner also confirmed that ruling. The sheriff's office has not released any names.
