1 Dead, 2 Critical in Wreck on Walnut Grove

MEMPHIS, TN – Memphis police are investigating a fatal wreck involving three cars on Walnut Grove Rd. between Humphreys Blvd. and Farm Road in East Memphis.

The wreck happened around 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 15, 2009.

Police say an Isuzu Trooper was traveling westbound on Walnut Grove Rd. when it struck the curb and flipped over into the eastbound lane of traffic. After landing in oncoming traffic, the SUV struck a Mercedes and a Ford Explorer that were traveling east on Walnut Grove Rd.

The Isuzu Trooper was carrying three students from Evangelical Christian School. 14-year-old Meredith Fox was a passenger in the SUV and died on the scene. The driver, 17-year-old Winston Miller, was transported from the scene by ambulance in critical condition and has since been released from the hospital. The second passenger, 14-year-old Rachel Hyneman, was airlifted from the scene. She was taken to The MED where she is currently listed in critical condition.

The drivers of the other two cars were taken to the hospital in non-critical condition.
