Payment on delivery

A mover should collect the payment for your delivery before your goods are unloaded in most cases, unless a prior agreement has been made. The driver may accept cash, cashier's check, money orders, and some larger companies take major credit cards. On an interstate shipment, if the billed charges are ten-percent more than the written estimate, the carrier is required to give you 30 days after the shipment date to pay the balance. This is one of the reasons to get a written estimate and keep your copy. If you pay 110-percent of the written estimate at the time of delivery, the carrier must unload and release all of your goods at that time. Be sure and check the condition of your property before signing a delivery receipt. It is especially important to check the condition of valuable items while the mover is present. Contact a local moving company for more information about payment on delivery.
