Does my driving record matter?

If you need insurance, your driver's record will play an important role in what you get. It determines how much your policy will cost, and even whether or not you're eligible for insurance at all. Your insurance can be terminated if you're arrested for drinking and driving. A series of moving violations could also be grounds for termination. If your insurance policy is terminated, another company may still insure you, though your insurance premiums will probably be higher. If you have difficulty finding an insurer, find out if your state has an uninsured motorist pool, which are for high-risk drivers. Their premiums will be higher because of the assumed risk. Maintaining a clean driving record will help keep your premiums low.
