Aerosmith star Joe Perry has changed his tune about replacing frontman Steven Tyler in the band, insisting the group is "hotter than ever" just a day after telling a Michigan radio station that a Tyler-less Aerosmith wouldn't be the same act.

The guitarist now reveals that he and his bandmates are "positively looking for a new singer to work with," after Tyler announced he was quitting the group to work on solo projects last week.

The split has come months after Tyler separated himself from his bandmates and then prompted them to scrap a summer tour after falling off a stage in South Dakota and smashing his collarbone.

Now, Perry reveals he hasn't written a new song with his former partner in a decade, and on Monday he recalled a recent phone chat with Tyler, during which the singer hung up on him.

And he now insists Tyler's departure won't mean the end for the rockers: "You just can't take 40 years of experience and throw it in the bin!"

Perry has revealed the band already has an album's worth of new material that was awaiting Tyler's input and vocals in 2010.
