There’s a Waiting Child success story to share: the story of a young woman named Chastity. Chastity was in foster care for several years before meeting her Mom, Christy. She lived with her in foster care for a while, and just in the nick of time, Christy officially became Chastity’s mother.
Chastity’s adoption happened this summer the day before her 18th birthday. “We made it by the skin of their teeth right before she turned 18, the adoption was final,” said Christy, Chastity’s mom. “We knew from the beginning that we loved each other,” said Chastity, “we wanted to be in each others’ lives for the rest of our lives. We just became a family. We were a family before and that kind of made it all legal.”
Chastity and her infant son Eric are doing well and love having a family with Christy. Eric calls Christy his “Nana.” Just seeing the three of them together is a beautiful sight.
Chastity is finishing up high school now and has aspirations for a future in social work and foster care. She says her experience as a foster child will give her an advantage when working with children since she knows what it’s like to be, as she calls it, “in the system.”
