NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- The Tennessee Titans have made their first trade of the 2009 NFL Draft, making a move with New England and drafting South Carolina tight end Jared Cook in the third round.
The Titans Sunday swapped the Patriots their second-round pick in 2010 for the 25th pick in the third and 89th overall.
The 6-4, 246-pound Cook ran the fastest time of any tight end at the NFL Combine. Cook caught 37 passes for 573 yards and three touchdowns.
This is the second straight year the Titans have drafted a tight end in the third round after grabbing Craig Stevens of California.
They used the franchise tag on Bo Scaife, their leading receiver last season. Scaife has yet to sign his tender.
Update:
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- The Tennessee Titans are splitting their picks in the NFL Draft evenly between offense and defense, adding cornerback Ryan Mouton of Hawaii in the third round.
The Titans started by drafting Rutgers receiver Kenny Britt, then defensive tackle Sen'Derrick Marks of Auburn on Saturday. A team with 10 picks swapped a second-round selection in 2010 to New England for the 25th pick in the third and grabbed South Carolina tight end Jared Cook on Sunday.
Five selections later, Tennessee went back to defense and added depth in the secondary with Mouton at 94th overall. The 5-foot-9, 187-pound Mouton also returned kicks for Hawaii, and he intercepted three passes and broke up 15 passes in two seasons.
Update:
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- The Tennessee Titans have turned their attention to defense again in the fourth round, selecting Southern Miss linebacker Gerald McRath to add depth to special teams and defense.
The 6-foot-2, 220-pound McRath led Conference USA in tackling in 2008 and was the league's defensive player of the year in 2007. He already has earned his degree and has good speed for a linebacker.
The Titans are making nine of their 11 picks on the second day of the NFL Draft after trading their second-round pick in 2010 for a third-round pick.
McRath is the 130th pick overall and one of two draft picks for Tennessee in the fourth round.
Update:
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- The Tennessee Titans are trying to add some depth to their offensive line by drafting Tulane tackle Troy Kropog with their second pick in the fourth round.
The Titans already have All Pro left tackle Michael Roos with his bookend at right tackle in David Stewart. But the Titans lost backup Daniel Loper in free agency to Detroit.
So they grabbed the 6-foot-5, 318-pound Kropog with their compensatory pick in the fourth round at 135 overall. They selected him five spots after taking another player from Conference USA. Tennessee took Southern Miss linebacker Gerald McRath at 130 for depth on special teams and defense.
