GERMANTOWN, TN -- Germantown High School standout, and son of Memphis Grizzlies coach Lionel Hollins, said this week he is committed to play for the University of Minnesota next basketball season.
Austin Hollins, a 6-4, 175 pound shooting guard, took an official visit to the Minneapolis-St. Paul campus last weekend. The Golden Gophers have been on the top of his list for months. He picked Minnesota over Memphis and Arkansas. Hollins is the second verbal commitment to Smith's 2010 recruiting class.
If he signs a National Letter of Intent with Minnesota in November, Hollins will have an automatic connection to the team and sophomore center Ralph Sampson III. Lionel Hollins and Ralph Sampson, Jr., their fathers, played together for the Houston Rockets during the 1984-85 NBA season. Also, the elder Hollins has known Coach Smith since the mid-90s when Smith was coach at the University of Georgia.
