MEMPHIS, TN – Macaroni and cornmeal are probably in your kitchen cupboard, but the state says they shouldn’t be used as toys in you child’s daycare.

Excellent Performance Childcare Center on Britton in North Memphis received high marks for:

  • Good interaction between staff and parents.

  • Promoting acceptance of diversity.

State Concerns:

  • A state inspector says caregivers did not keep their eyes on children when they were eating snacks. The state requires adequate supervision for children during activities like eating.

  • A state inspector says some of the children’s bottoms were not wiped during the potty break. The state says this could lead to the spread of germs.

  • Children and staff rarely washed their hands after nose wiping and coughing, says state inspectors. The state requires hand washing at least 75 percent of the time.

  • During snack time, inspectors say a child asked for a second serving, but was told by a teacher there was no more available. The state says a sufficient amount of food must be provided to the students.
