MEMPHIS, TN – The state gave
“Cherry Jubilee Family Day Home” in Whitehaven high marks for:
- Helping children use and understand language.
- Scheduling of daily activities.
State Concerns:
- No space specifically set aside where children could be alone, as required by the state.
- Caregivers were not washing their hands after removing a child’s dirty diaper.
Overall, “Cherry Jubilee Family Day Home” received two stars.
“Little Tykes Learning Academy” in Fox Meadows received high marks for:
- Informal use of language.
- Techniques used in the discipline of children.
State Concerns:
- No soft furniture for the children to use, as required by the state. A caregiver told the inspector children either sit on the floor or on wooden chairs.
- Infants were either held or confined to swings, infant seats or cribs for much of the day. The state requires that infants have a space where they can crawl or walk around most of the day.
Overall, “Little Tykes Learning Academy” received zero stars.
“Miss Pammie’s Playkare” in Raleigh received high marks for:
- Helping children use reasoning.
State Concerns:
- The music/block playroom area was dark. There was no light bulb in the ceiling light fixture. The state requires adequate lighting for all childcare areas.
- A state observer says the areas used for childcare, toys and materials were not kept clean. The observer said many of the toys and toy shelves were soiled. The toy containers were dirty and dried food was stuck to the floor and rugs.
Overall, “Miss Pammie’s Playkare” received zero stars.
