Americans consume about 377 calories of added sugar a day. That can add 6 more pounds a year to your weight.

"Even though there's sugar that occurs naturally in things like fruit and yogurt, and dairy foods, manufacturers are adding sugars to everything and increasingly sweetening the foods that we eat," says Samantha Cassetty the Nutrition Director at the Good Housekeeping Research Institute.

Drinks with the word water in its name can be especially deceptive, like this 20 oz. bottle of Glaceau Vitamin Water Energy. It has a whopping 8 teaspoons of added sugar in each serving.

"Sugar can be hiding under other names like crystalline fructose, high fructose corn syrup, brown rice syrup, even fruit juice concentrate," says Cassetty.

One cup of Kashi Go Lean Crunch contains 3 teaspoons of sugar. But who eats just one cup?

Ketchup may be the biggest culprit of them all. One tablespoon equals one teaspoon of added sugar. But to our surprise, one tablespoon covers a burger nicely.

Also, your favorite marinara sauce could be packing in the sugar. One half cup of Bertolli Vineyard marinara sauce has 3 teaspoons of sugar.

Other surprising finds include 2.5 teaspoons of sugar in one Pepperidge Farms bagel.
