MEMPHIS, TN – Memphis police say a 16-year-old girl has been charged with First Degree Murder in the death of a 10-month-old boy.
According to Memphis police spokesperson Karen Rudolph, officers were called to a home in the 4400 block of Grinstead about a baby who was unresponsive. The incident happened Saturday, October 31, 2009.
Investigators say when officers arrived at the home, they were told 10-month-old Wynter Roberts fell off of a bed and lost consciousness. Roberts was taken to Le Bonheur Children’s Medical Center in critical condition, where he later died.
After an autopsy, the Shelby County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled the child’s death a homicide and said Roberts had been beaten to death.
Police arrested and charged 16-year-old Jasmine Malone with First Degree Murder in the Perpetration of Aggravated Child Abuse.
